travel agency for us military families? Is there an agency that we can call for travel purposes? to use our military discounts? Like flights? Because I see prices on their main websites but if i call in to get the military discount they end up charging me a fee anyway to book on the phone. So is there an agency for military families? Where do I go for that?
What is the best way to get the best deal / military discount for a cruise in Hawaii ? Who has the best offers for military? Or is there another way to see all the islands without going on the major cruiselines(Carnival, NCL, Celebrity, etc). I heard the best way to travel all the islands is indeed to travel through a cruise... but if you have better ideas let me know. As I said also let me know the best cruise options. I am deploying in September and want to take my wife to Hawaii when I get back. Thanks!
How do military discounts on flights work? My boyfriend is flying me to see him in March. He is in the military. Can he use his military discount to buy me a ticket or can he only use it for himself? I am not sure how this works. What travel sites take military discounts?
Military travel help? I'm trying to find the cheapest tickets to get my son home from San Diego, CA to Columbus, Oh round-trip travelling December, 16 & returning January, 2nd. He is a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton so his funds are pretty low. Any suggestions? It's hard to find military discounts with airlines from what I've found, or the military rate is as high or higher than regular fares.
WHAT AIRLINES COMPANY OFFER MILITARY DISCOUNTS? I've been searching but I found this page: http://www.onetravel.com/travel/military-travel.asp?FPaffiliate=Google&FPSub=GO-03b_MIL_FL&gclid=CMHE1e-K9JoCFQO2FQoddAiUeQ But I'm looking for an airline that can offer military discounts.
Major military discount? Need a get-away!? My husband and I need a mini vacation desperately. We've been under a tremendous amount of stress lately--one of our stresses: not much money coming in. I was wondering if anyone knew of places who gave a major military discount where we could get in a little R&R without spending a tremendous amount of money. We're in Georgia, and don't want to travel much farther out of the state unless its to somewhere close--i.e., TN, FL, AL, and..within GA
Need help with a travel decision? My daughter and I will be moving from Washington to Iowa in March. She will be a year old then. A plane ticket will cost $300 or more and can be up to a 9 hour trip. Then when I get to the Des Moines airport, my mom would have to drive an hour 1/2 to come pick me up when my plane gets there after midnight (the only time any of the cheaper flights arrive!). I will be traveling alone with my daughter. My second option would be to take Amtrak. This would be convenient because there is a train station in my hometown that I am moving back to, and the arrival times for those trips are around 7:00 in the morning, so getting a ride would not be a problem. But for that, the train from WA to CA takes 19 hrs 44 m, then there is a 5 hour layover, then from CA to IA it is a 42 hr 5m trip. BUT the ticket, with my military discount, is only $176.40. What way should I go? It is already going to cost about $1500 for movers to move our household goods.
Here are my criteria: What branch is for me? ..and other misc. questions about the military? I am a freshman in college but I want to get into the military for 2 years and be done. ( I might do 4 if I really like it) These are my reason: To serve my country GI Bill Able to get college credits and take classes as you serve Health, Dental Insurance for life Military Discount Job Preference after Duty TRAVEL!!! I do NOT want to kill anyone, or be responsible for a death, as it is super against my religion. Oh and I'm not trying to die either. So, I plan on getting a good score on the ASVAB, and working in the IT field. I don't want to be in infantry. Here are my questions: 1- Which branch will let me travel and see new cultures the most? 2- If I just serve for only 2 years, will I get the above benefits? 3- How long do you have to be in the military before considered a veteran? 4- Is it true that I may be called up for duty even when I have completed my 2 years? If so, when will I truly be done? 5- Which branch is least discriminatory towards Muslims? 6- What is life like for Muslims like me in the Armed Forces, and will I be able to perform my religious duties (pray 5X/day, etc)? 7- Is it true that you get 1 free cosmetic surgery ( such as lasik, etc.) ? I don't really care about promotions, rank, or getting into a military career. Feel free to correct any assumptions that I have made above.I tried to do as much research as I could before I got bored. I'm leaning towards Airforce or Navy, but everything is still in the air. If you could tell me your experiences with one of them, I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot for any input you can give me. Basically I want to do anything computer related in the IT Field Examples- IT/Network Specialist, Computer Systems Specialist, Software Developer, Computer Systems Operator, etc. Yea.. I think I want to do 4 years, instead of 2, based on the feedback I got. Thanks!
Airfare discounts for military and/or just in general? Our son is coming home on a short leave (before he leaves for the Middle East) and I have been searching everywhere for a good deal on airline tickets for his travel. I have heard about discounts one can get based on being in the military, but found nothing really other than an effective stand-by status, which he cannot do this time due to time constraints. Does anyone have an awesome contact/site they can offer up for the best deal possible? It would be so greatly appreciated! I am just trying to help him save the most money, he is going to need it. Thank you =)

Cheap travel... help please?!? Hello. I am leaving for Joplin Missouri from Virginia Beach on the 24th of May and returning on the 29'th. My husband and I really can't afford to put out more than $300 round trip. I was planning on driving, but my mom offered to put $300 towards us flying today, and after looking around I can't find any thing cheaper than $400 per person including taxes. So yeah, that would leave us with a $500 dollar bill to fly, minus her $300 contribution. Does anyone know of a lower-cost and faster way to travel? My hubby's navy and I'm a dependant, and yes, I have looked at military discounts. Does anyone have any ideas? Or should I just take the car? Thanks!

China's military in comparison to the US.....thoughts? If you don't want to read all this then check out the Fact at the bottom. Thanks! Lets start this off by informing everyone of the benifits of actually serving their country. 1. Pride 2. Service 3. Teamwork 4. Leadership skills 5. Resume builder 6. Money 7. College Benefits 8. Discounts 9. Travel (voluntary and involuntary) 10. Opportunity 11. Career choices 12. Opportunity for advancement 13. No glass ceiling 14. It is what you make it 15. $20,000 sign on bonus 16. $10,000 commissioning bonuses 17. $15,000 reenlistment bonuses 18. Lifelong friendships 19. Retirement plan (nearly unbeatable) 20. Total Health, Dental, Life Insurance 21. Pay is actually comparable if not better in Military Life once you add in the Housing Allowance (BAH) Subsistance Allowance, Clothing Allowance, Hazard Duty Pay (while deployed), Family Seperation (while deployed), and more. A 1LT (officer) with approximately 4 years in the service can expect to make roughly $60,000 + $10,000 worth of insurances = $70,000. And about $40,000 + $10,000 (insurance) for enlisted with approximately the same time in. 22. Another big benefit that many overlook is the health care. If you have 1 dependent, you have 12. Meaning you get the same coverage for all 12 children as you would if you only have 1. There is no additional charges, they are just simply covered. If anyone has any questions about joining the military or would like further information feel free to email me at bryansrebates@yahoo.com. I'd be more than happy to talk about the opportunities that the Military has to offer more specifically the Army National Guard - where you can have your civilian career and drill one weekend a month 2 weeks a year as a Citizen/Soldier. And to all you Women out there who don't think you've got what it takes to join the military - you are dead wrong. Getting through basic training isn't easy, but its certainly possible. We have over 600,000 Soldiers in the Army National Guard and Reserves and over 500,000 in the Army. All of these people made it, and so can you. Just another quick fact. Our active duty and reserve forces are dwarfed by that of China's who has an Active Duty force of more than 10 million.
Does anyone have any coupon code for airlines.? My husband is in the military and we are traveling back to see family and any discount helps. We have tried to get the military discounts from the airlines but they are usually more expensive. Thanks
Good vacation site...? I am looking at taking a vacation to Israel this fall. I want to find a site like travelocity but for Israeli travel. Oh and a military discount would be a nice feature but not required.
What can I use a Military ID for? My husband and I just recently got married and I got my military ID yesterday. I was just curious on all the special stuff I can do with it lol. I've done some research and some people say that you can't use the military ID anymore as a passport? But I'm not sure if that's completely correct. Would I be able to go to Canada or Mexico with no passport just military ID? If we decided to go to Rome would we need a passport? Are we both allowed to enter Disney Land or Disney World free with our military ID? I have heard of www.herosalute.com and there I can get in free to some theme parks which I think is awesome :) I can get discounts on hotels right? I need/want as many ideas as you all can throw at me. What all I can get discounts on or free? Where can I travel with just a military ID? I'd really appreciate all the input :) Thank you!!!!!
My husband wants to become a nurse through the Army or Air force. Is this advisable, will we stay together? We want to know if this is something to consider, or if he should discount this option. Our main worry is not being able to be together. We both love to travel, so I am more than willing to go to where ever he is, but I want to make sure this will even be an option. He is looking to get a scholarship through one of the branches, then work for them when he becomes a nurse. Any insight would be helpful, neither or us has really experienced military life before.
Anyone have any valid Amtrak promo codes? I've scoured google and can't find ANYTHING valid. I'm trying to buy a rail ticket for the "sunset limited" amtrak rail in October 09, and all of the discounts I am finding only apply to northeastern routes. Any help appreciated!! Person traveling is not senior, military, or AAA-so I am in need of a straight up discount code.
Discounts on international flights? This July, I'm going to travel to Luneberg Germany from Pittsburgh, PA. Airline prices keep rising by the week. Do you know of any discounts I could get to reduce the cost? I'm traveling in a group of 8 youth (including myself) and one adult. My mother is in the military (possible discounts?) I fly international every year.
I need help w a vacation to cherokee and possibly gatlinburg? Im 28 and never really ventured out on a vacation of my own. I am wanting to leave Sunday or Monday, head to Cherokee for a couple days and then maybe Gatlinburg. It will be me, my two year old and my 7 month old. How can I find a cheap but clean hotel/motel w a pool? On yahoo travel it says gatlinburg is only like 19 miles frm cherokee, but mapquest says it's like an hour. Which is correct? I will also need hotel/motel recomendations for gatlinburg/pigeon forge area. Any advice on travel, lodging etc will be appreciated! Im used to road trips with my boys, we are military. We just moved home to GA from KY. My hubby is deployed. So if you know lodging that may offer military discount, that may help too! Sorry to be a pain! I want to be prepared! Thanks!
Are airlines shooting themselves in the foot by adding all of these extra fees? Are airlines shooting themselves in the foot by adding all of these new fees? I realise that many of these fees are not "new" in the sense that they have been around at least a year. But recently many airlines added about $10 to their checked baggage fees. Most of them now are charging $5 for a snack, also. I already have stopped checking bags, and I just bring some dried fruit on the plane with me as a snack. I would rather die of starvation than be nickeled and dimed to death. I travel to Europe a lot and Asia a lot, so unfortunately I can't drive, take a train or bus. But the moment they start charging for carry on luggage is the moment I start taking the train or driving. I am going to S. Korea in July to visit my sister on a military base. Even with her military discount the ticket is still $1,200. There is no way I am paying about $100 to bring luggage there to. I'd rather go naked than give them any more of my money. What do you think? Are they shooting themselves in the foot?
I need help planning my honeymoon to Disney. Where do I start? Its been a year and a half and finally this newlywed couple gets to have a honeymoon in December! We want to stay five days, with a hopper pass (I think). We want to see EPCOT, and the fireworks at Magic Kingdom and go on a carriage ride and a safari ride, a spa treatment would be nice and having at least one fine-dining meal would be fantastic! I have tried looking online but I don't know what I'm seeing... How do we do this and get the best deals possible? Are there newlywed discounts and military discounts? We don't have a travel agent or plan to use one.
Wanting to go to hawaii...cruise or fly? I want to go to Hawaii next year but I'm not sure if I want to take a cruise there or fly and stay in a hotel. If I go, I want to stay for about a week or two. Which would be the most reasonably priced? A two week cruise? Or plane+hotel? Also, I know some cruises do military discounts, do hotels do the same? Please answer based on experience. (I'm not sure how much the hotels are in Hawaii, plus I know I'd have to count in food, and small things like travel fares)
Free passports for Military Members? hey, if I'm traveling out of the country at my own expense on leave..(not military orders) I need a passport. Not a Military ID So I was wondering ...do military members get free passports? or atleast a discounted passport? and do we get them the same way as civilians?/...go to the office and apply and all that?? thanks
Tips for traveling via plane? As in when to buy the ticket, like a week prior, or a month, when are rates at their lowest? Any ways to dodge taxes and fees? I am able to use a military discount through my mother, does this help? Just like a faq or something, anything would help, thank you so much~~
Travel and Vacation for Marine Corps. Officer? I spoke with my recruiter and he was telling me about vacation while on active duty. He said that you get a month of vacation a year. I know that you can't go while in Boot Camp obviously, but can you go on vacation while on active duty? Can you go abroad? I would love to go to Australia and the Carribean, could I do that? Also, they said that you get discounts on Flights as a Marine, and they also said you can fly for free on US military flights, is any of that true? Please shed light, I greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Also, discounts are available to injured vets, spouses of vets killed in action, and college students currently enrolled in college. Proof of eligibility will be expected before services are given. Another service I can do is plant watering or any other things you need done around the house while you are gone if this is something that you want. Rates will be on a case by case basis for now. Just let me know what your needs are and we can work something out. I do require that we have a meeting prior to services, just to make sure everything will run smoothly and make sure you are comfortable with me taking care of your baby. Your pets shots must be up to date for them to stay in my home for any services. I will need proof prior. I do not require proof of shots for services in your home. Also, if your dog is being potty trained. They will need to have a crate with them if they are going to be staying with me. By no means will they stay in the crate all day but I have found with my two dogs that crate training is a very efficient way of training a puppy and I will do my best to help train them when they are staying with me. I have. :) The more people I ask, the better I'll do... right? Thanks for your input.
can some miltary wives tell me the truth? What is it really like being a military wife? The recruiter is really not going to tell me the nitty gritty stuff or sometimes even the truth. What is healthcare system really like? Is it good or bad? What is the recreation and the supposed discounts like? are they actually good? What about the housing and other allowances such as travel you are going to get? Please i really want the truth before my fiance and i jump in.
Booking a Mediterranean cruise. Need help? I'm looking to book a cruise in the Mediterranean but I'm feeling a bit lost at the moment. Normally I reside in Colorado but at the moment I'm living in London for a term doing Uni. I've tried doing some searches online for cruises and I find that since I'm accessing the internet from the UK I'm automatically given primarily UK website (this is for obvious reasons but a bit troublesome when trying to search US sites) but I've run across a few American based websites that price the exact same cruises but once you do the currency conversion between the two listed prices, booking a cruise over here seems to be a fair bit more expensive. I'd really like suggestions either for a US based website that I can actually access from here or a travel agent that thinks they might be able get me a better deal than what I've been able to find online. Ideally what I've been trying to find is a Mediterranean cruise that is 11+ nights and departs no sooner than the evening of 27 March (if leaving from Southampton) or the 28th if departing anywhere else. Because I'm here doing an internship with a Uni I have to be back in London by 25 April. I've managed to find a cruise that fits this for 12 days and runs about £700 but I'd really like to find out if something can be booked cheaper through a US site or agent. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I'd like to find the best deal possible. As a side note - I realize the price I mentioned above is a per person rate and there will be a 2nd traveler with me. Also, I'm a military spouse of an active duty soldier and wondering about any military discounts that a cruise line might provide. Thanks in advance! Well, mind you, I did say it was in pounds (£) not dollars ($) but 700 quid is about $950US. But anyhow, the cruise I was looking at was from Royal Caribbean, leaving on April 13th. The other I was looking at was about $100 more and was MSC cruise line leaving on April 7th.
Attending USMC Graduation? Hi, all. I've asked a lot of Marine/ military questions. Planning on signing up in the next year or so. Anyways, I checked out the Marine Corps Recruiting Depots PI and SD sites' and noticed that MCRD SD offers discounts on travel to attend Graduation but haven't found any on MCRD PI's site. This was a while ago and they've updated the site now so it might be gone. If I do attend boot camp, I just don't want my family paying a whole lot to come see my graduation. Thanks. True. Never thought about that. It is near the airport. Thanks.
I need help with Amtrak!!!? My husband and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary the beginning of this month. We are both military so we already get a discount.... but we are traveling across country so the tickets are way over 600 for both of us. We never even went on a honeymoon because we couldn't afford one.... so this is kind of like a honeymoon for us. We get a discount on the seat fare.... but not the accomodations. Since we are going to be on the train for a couple of days, we want the roomette thing. Is there anyone that has worked for amtrak as a conductor that knows the deal with how amtrak works? I'd like to have my husband get the roomette suite(no cost for extra person... but i still get charged for base fare) and I'll just get the coach ticket just to get on the train, ..... only from our first stop til a few stops later, just until i can get to the roomette. Is there a window in the roomette suite where a captain could see me? Whats the worst thing that could happen if he does? Just make me pay the fare? Also, if we find family to loan us money so that we can get the room from the get go.... do you think we could make love? I mean we are still newlyweds and will be together on a train for a couple of days...hopefully there is no window. As far as baggage goes, you are aloud a few bags and he can just say my bag is his and i have no luggage. I know it's not right... but we can't afford to fly. I just lost my job because of the economy and he is struggling. This is why we are staying inside the US for our anniversary. We are only like $200 short.... but just in case we can't get the money we need other options. If anyone has any help or knowledge please message us, thanks. Please don't judge.
Where can I stay in St. Louis,MO? I'm traveling to St. louis at the end of June with my family of 6(2x Adults, 4x Children). I'm in the military so I can recieve some discount rates but I'm looking for a temporary lodging for about two weeks with good rates. I tried Scott AFB but they are booked during this time. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks
Can someone please edit this paragraph and revise it for me if needed thank you.? Being married to an army soldier is an amazing experience for my family and me. For example the military gives our family great medical benefits that covers us when we go to the hospital for an emergency visit, and when we go to regular checkups at the doctors or dentist appointment. Also, being part of the military we can live on the army base for free. We won’t have to pay any rent, electric or water bills while on base. If we chose to live off base the army will give us basic housing allowance called BAH, which will pay for our rent. We would have to pay all the other bills. Also after being in the service for two years the army gives the family a loan to purchase a house. Another wonderful thing about being married to an army soldier is that we get to travel to many different locations and see many things that we might not have seen if we weren’t part of the military, such as, Japan; Germany; Alaska, and many other places. Also being part of the military come with great discounts when buying things. Many different places offer discounts for different types of things like, motel room, clothing, food, cars, loans and houses. If we go on base to shop we can buy things cheaper than going to a store in the town or city that we live in. I love being married to an army soldier; it’s an amazing experience for my family and me. Yes I am married to a soldier. But he is just now starting the process of joining. Thank you for your help!
ok when does the airport pay for someone's hotel? when does the airport not and will pay for ones hotel if they are stranded in the airport?? if one will be stranded there for 2 or 3 days, will they always pay for the hotel. who wants to sleep on teh floor, THAT IS UNCOMFORTABLE and what if the hotel or motel the one will stay at does not have a shuttle to the airport. DO THEY HAVE TO TAKE A CAB?????????? I SAY NO TO A CAB as the rate of getting there is not a set amount, CABS ARE CASH ONLY AND WHY? and or the cab driver may drive me all over creation to rack up a huge fare (Will they do that, they do that and I report them for fraud) and what if I dont have enough cash for the hotel or motel, how will I get there? Will the airport pay for the cab fare? what if the airport wont pay for my hotel or motel, how do I get them to? when I flew home from Chicago and when my flight was cancelled, they only gave me a discount on the hotel, WHY NOT PAY FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still mad that some airline tickets you cannot change and what if your flight is cancelled and your trip is in veign, IS That true that the Airline ticket insurance will only cover it if there is military duty or death of a family member, I Think one should be in their rights to decline to travel if the trip is in vain due to delays! I have many flight trips planned this summer and will one of them's flight get cancelleD! is it like the airline is not responsible for ones ruined trip when they can waive these rules and fees!! why wont they waive them if one declines traveling if their trip is delayed enough IF THE flight is cancelled due to weather, are they entitled to a refund if the trip is in vain.
Where can I find a REAL deal on Disneyland 3-day park hopper passes? I want to plan a vacation for my wife and I to Disneyland on January 1-3. I've done a lot of research on hotels and Disneyland 3-day hopper passes but am shocked to find that there are no real deals out there. I've done tons of searches online for packages but on virtually every single website I go to their "discount" prices are identical, if not HIGHER than what I can get just booking on the hotel website and disneyland.com. I even contacted themagicforless.com, which is a supposed travel agent specializing in Disney packages and they were $300 MORE than just me spending 15 minutes doing it myself. It's really frustrating. Anyway, we will be driving in from Las Vegas so we are not California residents, aren't in the military, don't belong to AAA, etc. I did look on eBay but all the passes there are really hokey where you have to rent the tickets and jump through a bunch of weird hoops which we don't feel safe with plus it's an extra hassle. We just want to find a place who can actually get us a deal on a 3 day hopper with hotel within walking distance of the park, first choice being the Camelot Inn across the street. Booking it on our own right through the Disney site and hotel site, the rates are $184 per ticket for Disney and $250 (including fees and taxes) for the two nights at the hotel so please respond if you know of a website or travel agent that can really beat that. Thanks!
What is your opinion about this article? Continental matches Delta baggage fee increase CNN) -- Continental Airlines has matched Delta Air Lines' recent checked-luggage fee increase, a Continental spokeswoman says. Delta and Continental passengers paying online for checked bags will be charged $23 for the first bag and $32 for the second. Delta's online fees are rising by $8 for the first checked bag and $7 for the second. Continental's fees are rising by $5 for each bag. The new Delta rates start Tuesday and apply to tickets purchased on or after January 5. Passengers who bought tickets before that date will pay the old rates, Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott said. Continental matched Delta's updated fees late last week, spokeswoman Mary Clark said. The increase on Continental applies to passengers who purchased tickets on or after January 9 for travel on or after January 16. Those checking in bags at the airport will shell out even more: $25 for the first bag, $35 for the second on both airlines. Some passengers -- such as first-class fliers, some frequent fliers and military personnel on deployment -- are exempt from most checked-luggage fees. Delta and Continental luggage fees now are among the highest in the industry. US Airways also charges $25 for the first checked bag and $35 for the second bag when checked in at the airport. Online, the airline charges $20 and $30 for the first and second bags. United Airlines charges $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag at the airport, and $15 and $25 online for the first and second bags, respectively. American Airlines charges $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag, both online and at the airport. Most major air carriers started adding checked-bag fees in 2008. The airlines reported collecting nearly $740 million in baggage fees in the third quarter of 2009, according to U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. On discount carrier Southwest Airlines, the first and second checked bags are free. JetBlue offers a free first checked bag and charges $30 for the second.
Disney World in early July- army couple... any tips or help? I've been reading about the July weather and crowds in Disney World, and unfortunately, this is the only time that the army is going to let us go. We don't think it will be too bad, but we would like some help. We'll be going from June 30th and leaving July 4th. Does anyone know of any tips for traveling on these dates- anything from staying cool, beating the crowds/lines, and/or just fun things to do as a couple. We are also looking for discounts for military, AAA, and Disney Visa cardholders... If you can think of anything to make our trip magical, please let me know! =) Thanks!

Keating Five The Keating Five (or Keating Five Scandal) refers to a Congressional scandal related to the collapse of most of the Savings and Loan institutions in the United States in the late 1980s. Following the deregulation of the banking industry in the 1980s, savings and loan associations (also known as thrifts) were given the flexibility to invest their depositors' funds in commercial real estate. (Previously, they had been restricted to investing in residential real estate.) Many savings and loan associations began making risky investments. As a result, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, the federal agency that regulates the industry, tried to clamp down on the trend. In so doing, however, the FHLBB clashed with the Reagan administration, whose policy was deregulation of many industries, including the thrift industry. The administration declined to submit budgets to Congress that would request more funding for the FHLBB's regulatory efforts. In 1989, the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, Calif., collapsed. Lincoln's chairman, Charles H. Keating Jr., was faulted for the thrift's failure. Keating, however, told the House Banking Committee that the FHLBB and its former chief Edwin J. Gray were pursuing a vendetta against him. Gray testified that several U.S. senators had approached him and requested that he ease off on the Lincoln investigation. It came out that these senators had been beneficiaries of $1.3 million (collective total) in campaign contributions from Keating. This allegation set off a series of investigations by the California government, the United States Department of Justice, and the Senate Ethics Committee. The ethics committee's investigation focused on five senators: Alan Cranston (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); John McCain (R-AZ); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), who became known as the Keating Five. After months of testimony revealed that all five senators acted improperly to differing degrees, the senators continually said they were following the status quo of campaign funding practices. In August 1991, the committee concluded that Cranston, DeConcini, and Riegle's conduct constituted substantial interference with the FHLBB's enforcement efforts and that they had done so at the behest of Charles Keating. The committee recommended censure for Cranston and criticized the other four for "questionable conduct." As it happened, Cranston, who was nearly 80 years of age, had already decided not to run for re-election in 1992. DeConcini and Riegle continued to serve in the Senate until their terms expired, but they did not seek re-election in 1994. DeConcini was appointed by President Bill Clinton in February, 1995 to the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. [1] Glenn did choose to run for re-election in 1992 and it was anticipated that he would have some difficulty winning a fourth term in the Senate. However, Glenn handily defeated Lieutenant Governor R. Michael DeWine for one more term in the Senate before retiring in 1999. The scandal was followed by a number of attempts to adopt campaign finance reform—spearheaded by U.S. Sen. David Boren (D-OK)—but most attempts died in committee. A weakened reform was passed in 1993. Substantial campaign finance reform was not passed until the adoption of the McCain-Feingold Act in 2002. The only member of the Keating Five still in the U.S. Senate is John McCain. John McCain was forced to re-invent himself as a campaign reformer in order to keep his seat in the Senate. Now he’s running for President, the biggest lobbyist haven of all. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4]. Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint: Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6] The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7] Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8] Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10] In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11] In October, 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission".
